Depending on the camp you’re at, getting paid happens in a few varying ways. At my camp, all the international staff open up a bank account at the local bank branch (yay for having a US bank account!) and then everyone gets paid directly into their bank. Pay day is every 2 weeks, with your final pay check and bonus coming a week after camp ends – great for if you’re travelling and need a nice little injection of cash for your last few weeks in the States!
I know that it’s different at every camp though, and even at my camp, the whole getting paid into your bank thing is relatively new – I think they used to give it all to you in cash at the end or something… but that’s a lot of money to then have to carry around with you!
So anyway, there are a few different ways you can get paid at camp that I know of:
- Open a US bank account and get paid weekly or fortnightly into your account.
- Get paid cash at the end (in this case, you can often get subbed some money if you need it during camp)
- Paid by cheque, which you can then cash in the US – your camp will probably take you somewhere to do this.
- Get your money on a prepaid card at the end of camp, which would be perfect to take travelling after camp with you!
In my opinion, I think the best option is to get paid directly into a bank account, so I’m lucky that this is how my camp does it, but to be honest, it doesn’t really matter how you get paid – you’ll get the money in the end, whichever system your camp uses!
But if you would like to know how you’re going to get paid at camp, just drop your agency an email or give them a call and I’m sure they’ll be able to tell you. And if they can’t then go direct to the source… your camp! They will always be willing to answer any questions have, especially if it’s a big concern for you.
Do you know of any other ways to get paid at camp?
