Summer Camp Riding Counselor

1. Where did you go to camp? How many years?

Camp Sloane YMCA, 1 Year

2. Why did you decide to work at summer camp?

It was something I always thought of doing then one day in March 2014 an advert for summer camps came up on facebook and I thought, you know what….. let’s do this! It was the best spontaneous decision I have ever made!!!!

3. What agency did you apply to camp through and would you choose them again/how did you find their service?

I applied through Bunac, based in London, I found them very good for my first time and very helpful and clear in what was required and they always kept me in the loop of what I needed to know.

4. What is/was your role at camp?

I was a Senior girls tent counselor and riding instructor.

5. Did camp meet your expectations? In what ways?

YES!!!! AND MORE!!!! It was fun, exciting and an amazing experience in every way, I can’t even put in to words how amazing it was as all the words in the world just can’t describe it well enough!

6. What 3 essential items would you never go to camp without?

Bug spray, sun screen, wooly hat!

7. What is your best/favourite camp memory?

Wow, this is tough! Probably some of the best times, when I wasnt teaching my activity (which was amazing), was just sitting in the tent with my girls or vespers at the end of the night was my favourite part of the day

8. What is/was your favourite camp food?

MUD PIE!!!!!

Sloane girls are F-I-N-E fine
All down the L-I-N-E line

All the T-I-M-E time
We are the B-E-S-T best
of all the R-E-S-T rest
and we will L-O-V-E love you
All the T-I-M-E time

Simply because it was the first camp chant I ever learned and when all the girls in all the different age groups sang it, it was sooo cool! AND FUN!

It made me think seriously about what I want from the future and where I see myself and has helped me to make some key decisions for University which is very exciting, I just can’t wait to get back to camp in the future.

13. What is the BEST thing about being a summer camp counsellor?

The weather, the job, the people, the experience, the independence, and the idea of someone depending on you (your kids), trying new things, adventure, learning new skills, my list is endless!!!

14. What’s the WORST thing?

Overnight in the rain/storm and wildlife!
