If you follow me on social media you’ll know I’ve got some very exciting news. I’ve been nominated for the UK Blog Awards 2017! This is a competition that began in 2014 and was “created to recognise true viral style and creative excellence across a variety of 16 UK industries”. The Awards are sponsored by some big name companies, including Odeon, EE and Huffington Post, and the people on the judging panel are a big deal in their categories. So in the blogging community this is pretty huge! A few weeks ago I actually received a nomination from a very lovely (anonymous) person for this teeny summer camp blog I’ve been running for the last 2 years. I am incredibly touched to even be recognised and very proud that someone out there thinks that the blog is deserving of an award. Just wow!
When I started this blog, all I wanted to do was share the camp love and provide would-be counselors with all the information they needed, that I felt wasn’t available when I first applied to work at summer camp. Over the past 2 years, Summer Camp Secrets has grown exponentially (I even wrote a book about camp!), and I’ve been so excited to see how many people are finding out about summer camp and the joys of being a camp counselor. I love interacting with you all on social media, and finding out about your camp experiences through emails and your participation in the ‘counselor of the week‘ series, and just generally sharing the camp knowledge that the past 6 summers has provided me with.
This blog (and you, my readers) means a great deal to me, and to be able to share it with even more people through this award would be incredible.
Anyway, I accepted my nomination and then made it through to the second round – the public vote. And this is where YOU come in. I need your help to get through the the next round of judging and to be in with even a chance of winning an award. I’ve never thought about blogging as something I could win an award for, as it’s always just been something I’ve done for fun and to spread the word about summer camp, so to get this nomination has been huge for me.
