If you’ve just spent your first summer at camp, or you’re a seasoned returner, or even if you’ve never been to camp but you’ve watched all the movies, you’ll be familiar with the tradition of the ‘camp song’. Whether it’s a chant at the dining hall, or a song you sing at every Closing Campfire, camp songs are everywhere, you can’t escape them… although I don’t know why you’d want to? I LOVE camp songs, I love that they’re just so, well, camp. Pretty much any song can become a camp song, but there are a few that really stick out for me.
So I thought I’d give you my top 10 favourite camp songs, and hopefully this will help to keep your camp spirit alive a little bit in the month that has always been the hardest for me when it comes to missing camp (ahh October… so close to the end of the previous summer, but so far from the next one!). And if you haven’t been to camp yet, but you’re thinking about it (or you’ve already been hired for next summer), this is the kind of thing you’re letting yourself in for!!
*I have no affiliation with any of the videos… they were just all I could find to show you how the songs went. For most of these songs there are a million different versions, but these are the closest to how I know them!
1. Button Factory
2. Little Red Wagon
3. The Hippo Song
4. The Bean Song
5. Herman the Worm
6. Peel Banana
7. Baby Shark
8. Great Big Moose
9. The Penguin Song
10. Boom Chicka Boom
I love this!!
I think my list would be (in no specific order):
Mama don’t allow
Cannibal King
Princess Pat (I convince the campers it’s about me!)
Johnny Rebec
The milk song
Proud to be a cow
Waddle-ee -ocha
Show me the way
Show me a smile
On my honour
