Returning to Camp with BUNAC: The Day Has Finally Arrived!

I am writing this sat on the plane, about 5 hours into my 7 hour flight to New York City! I’ll be spending 2 days in the city with a friend before heading to camp on Tuesday. I can’t believe it’s come around so quickly… where on earth did April go?

This past month has been a bit of a whirlwind, and I feel like I haven’t really stopped. The month began in an awesome way with 2 incredible gigs – George Ezra and Macklemore. I think they are both going to be the soundtrack to my summer.

Then really I’ve just spent my time seeing friends and family. I picked up my passport (or rather I got a friend to pick it up for me as I had no time due to work), which was the final piece in the ‘getting-to-America’ puzzle, and then it felt like the countdown had really begun.

In the middle of the month, I went down to Cornwall with some friends and had an amazing weekend just enjoying the countryside, chilling out, eating good food and, of course, playing frisbee on the beach. It was so nice to spend some solid time with all my favourite people, as none of them are returning to camp with me this year, so I’ve been trying to just be with them all as much as possible.

I’ve also been down to Sussex and up to Norfolk to see family too, again just getting in as much parent and sister time as possible before I’m gone again for 6 months! Saying goodbye to people is the hardest thing, but I know I have all their support and they just want me to have the BEST time this summer.

Other than that, it’s really just been a month of working – I work in a nursery and leaving my colleagues and the kids this week was so hard… I’m going to miss them all so much. I think once summer starts though and all our campers arrive, I’ll be so busy, it will take my mind off all the people I’m missing at home.

It was so lovely to spend time with all my sisters

Unusually for me, I didn’t really start packing until yesterday, so that was a bit hectic. But I somehow managed to empty out my room, move my stuff back to my sister’s house and get everything I wanted to take with me into one (fairly small) bag… pretty proud of myself for that! Then there was just about enough time to get a haircut and a new tattoo, before an early night and a 5am start this morning!

You may have seen my packing tips and other updates over on BUNAC’s instagram story, like today’s journey from London to New York. I’ll be doing some more takeovers in the coming months so be sure to go check them out to follow more of my experiences this summer at camp.

Packing summer camp
I LOVE packing (NOT)

I’m now so excited to just get back to camp and really dig in to what I think is going to be an absolutely incredible summer. In my new position as Program Director I’m going to have a lot of responsibility and I know that my to do list is going to be pretty much endless, but I feel so ready for the challenge and I’m looking forward to learning and growing in this role!

That’s all for now. I’ll be back in a May with some proper updates from my first month back at camp.

Now plane, hurry up and get there will you?!

**UPDATE** I’m now in NYC, loving life with one of my best friends from camp.
