You’ve got your Summer Camp placement sorted, your visa has been approved and soon you’re going to start writing your packing list – let the countdown to your flight to the USA begin! This month’s blog is all about the BUNAC flight options on the Summer Camp USA programme.
BUNAC offers two different flight options for Summer Camp USA. The non-flight package is £269 and includes your summer placement, visa support, medical insurance and more! The flight package has the same inclusions, plus return flights from the UK or Ireland to the USA all for just £499.
Find out everything you need in order to get up, up and away at Camp.
1. I haven’t got my flight details yet. When should I expect to receive them?
If you’ve sent in your flight booking form to BUNAC, rest assured the BUNAC team are working hard on getting these booked for you. As soon as your flight is booked, BUNAC will send you the flight details. You’ll receive them at least 2 weeks before you fly, so in the meantime you can focus your time on packing and saying final ‘see you later’s’ to family and friends!
2. Will there be anyone else from BUNAC on my flight?
Most likely, yes! BUNAC try to book as many people on the same flight as they can, particularly if you’re working at the same Camp as someone else; you can take to the skies together and become besties before you even land in the US. However, if you’re flying from a regional airport, this might not be possible. Whether you fly solo or with other BUNACers, you’ll have an absolutely amazing time.
3. Will anyone meet me at the airport when I arrive in the USA?
Good question! No one picks you up from the airport, but you are given extensive instructions on where to go when you arrive in the USA. At least 2 weeks before you fly, BUNAC’s partners CIEE will email you directly with instructions on how to get to your meet and greet arrival accommodation in either New York or Boston, including the shuttle voucher you need. Just follow the airport signs to the correct shuttle and you’ll be on your way!

4. How do I get to Camp from the airport?
When you arrive at the Meet & Greet arrival accommodation (you’ll receive details from BUNAC about this), CIEE will check you in and give you all the details you need about how you’re getting to camp the next day. It may be a coach, bus, train or even another flight, depending on where your Camp is. You’ll be travelling there with other people going to your Camp, so this is a great chance for you to start making friends.
5. What travel insurance do I need? Does the insurance you give cover my trip?
BUNAC provide full medical insurance for the time you are at Camp, and the 30 days of travelling around the USA afterwards too, which is included in the cost of the programme. This means you’ll be covered throughout your entire summer! Best of all, this insurance covers some of your belongings as well. The insurance doesn’t cover expensive items such as laptops or iPads, though, so if you are planning to take these to Camp (and you really don’t need to) you might want to get some additional insurance.
